Abstract

Inventory management is a problem that is often faced by a trading company, where a number of goods are expected to be obtained at the right place and time and at a fairly low cost. Grand Media Muara Bungo Bookstore carries out purchasing and marketing activities which are the main activities, so that merchandise inventory management plays an important role in achieving its goals.


The purpose of this research is to find out how the management of merchandise inventory in supporting the smoothness of buying and selling transactions at the Grand Media Muara Bungo Bookstore, and to find out the obstacles faced and the efforts made to overcome obstacles in inventory management. The method used in this study is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The population in this study were the leaders and all employees of the Grand Media Muara Bungo Bookstore.


The results showed that, the Grand Media Muara Bungo Bookstore had attempted to carry out merchandise inventory management as indicated by the coordination between the merchandise warehouse section and also the store department so that the stock of goods remained available. However, problems are still found, especially regarding delays in delivery of goods and vacancies in the availability of inventory items in the warehouse, so that this disrupts the buying and selling process and reduces profits. The obstacles faced are that the storage of merchandise inventory in the warehouse is not grouped according to type and size, making it difficult to find when there is a demand for goods, supervision of merchandise at the Grand Media Muara Bungo Bookstore is not optimal due to lack of Human Resources (HR), and limitations and vacancies in the supply of certain goods at the Distributor. Meanwhile, the efforts made are to store merchandise inventory based on grouping according to the type and size of the merchandise, increase the number of Human Resources (HR) and place an early order on merchandise inventory that may experience vacancies from distributors.
