TUNAGRAHITA STUDENTS' ABILITY IN WRITING WORDS AT THIRD GRADE OF SMPLB MERANGIN ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020

Abstract

This study to Tunagrahita Students' Ability in Writing Words at Third Grade of SMPLB Merangin. The researcher was interested in conducting research into writing ability in word Mentally retarded students "Tunagrahita" are more able to be invited to communicate than other disabled people. So, there are some problems faced by students. First, students found it difficult to write word because they did not learn English in elementary school. Second, students was difficult to write the word correctly because thay are tunagrahita . Third, students think writing English word is a difficult activity, because it different to mother thought. This research conducted quantitative descriptive design, Quantitative research. The population and sample of this research was the third grade students of SMPLB Merangin Bangko. They consist of a class. The total number of population and sample was 2 students. The instrument of the research was written test, the test used content validity and Test-Retest reability. In analyzing the data, it used rubric scoring if the students correct answer gave 1 and incorrect answer gave 0. After that the researcher classification the students ability in writing word into characteristics of tunagrahita based on their answer sheet. The test result was found that 2 students obtained an average score of 53, and on the retest it was found that 2 students obtained an average score of 63. And the students average score of test 1 and test 2 was 58. In addition based on the student scores. Student 1 was complete and student 2 was incomplete. Base on the classification and characteristics of tunagrahita, the students 1 categorized into Mild Mental retardation (Inferior), and student 2 categorized into moderate mental retardation (moron). Its was suggested that the teacher have to used the provide method or strategy to teaching writing.
