Abstract

The purpose of the research was to Describe Students Vocabulary Mastery in Recount text at the Eight grade of MTs N Merangin academic Year2020/2021. The students’ were difficult to comprehend the recount text because of limited vocabulary. Vocabulary is one of the important component of language that should be mastered by students. This research used Descriptive Quantitative Method. The population was the eight grade of MTs N Merangin and based on the students this grade consist of 107 students. The sample for the research was 26 students, researcher use purposive sampling to take the sample. In this part to collected data the research gave the Test to the students, the test was multiple choice question. For the instrument on the validity, researcher used content and expert validity. Based on analysis the data the students’ vocabulary Mastery in recount text from criteria 14 students got complete score or it was 53,85%. On the other one, 12 students got in complete score it was only 46,15%. The mean score was 76,28. Researcher concluded that the students’ vocabulary mastery in recount text based was reach the average. The students’ vocabulary mastery based on indicators that in Word Meaning was (86,54% and Use was 42,31%). So, the dominant difficulty in mastering vocabulary in eight grade of MTsN 2 Merangin was Use. The researcher give the suggestion for the teacher must defend strategy when teach English especially in teach vocabulary in recount text. In other to they feel fun to learn about vocabulary. Furthermore, for the students researcher expected to students to keep studying diligently more and enrich more vocabulary in hope to be mastery in vocabulary.
