IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY BY USING PEER LEAD TEAM LEARNING (PLTL) METHOD OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING AT SMP N 23 SAROLANGUN AT THE EIGHTH GRADE ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019

Abstract

This study aims to improve speaking ability in eighth grade at SMP N 23 Sarolangun. The students in learning speaking ability are low and the students do not active in teaching and learning activities. Because the students feel afraid to make a mistake when speak English, the result was the students’ choose silence and just listen when the teacher explanation about the material. The researcher used Peer Lead Team Learning (PLTL) method to improve speaking ability in eighth grade at SMPN 23 Sarolangun.This research conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR) that consist of two cycle. Each cycle had four steps is planning, action, observation, and reflection. In this research, the sample is eighth grade at SMPN 23 Sarolangun academic year 2018/2019. The students consists twenty students, eight male and twelve female. In pre test, there are 30% the students is achieve KKM. In cycle one show improvement, there are 50% the students is achieve KKM. In cycle two show improvement too, there are 85% the students is achieving KKM. With Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum (KKM) of speaking ability is 70. It can be concluded that Peer Lead Team Learning (PLTL) method can improve the speaking ability.
