INCREASING THE STUDENTS VOCABULARY MASTERY BY USING VISUAL EXTERNAL MEDIA AT SIXTH GRADE OF SDN 253 BANGKO ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020

Abstract

The process of learning English in SDN No. 253 Bangko was still focused on the teacher as the learning executor. It could be said that the learning process was still monotone. So, it makes the students have less vocabulary. The learning process did not used method yet or media in learning process. Students were not interested in learning paragraph because they difficult and confuse when they meets with the text. In addition, the atmosphere in class study not feel interest that make they feel bored in learning English. There also because some factors met from the students that lazy to bring dictionary to the school. They did not know the technique to open dictionary, students also difficult to say some objects that has difficult words.


                The subject of the study is the sixth grade of SDN No. 253 Bangko Academic year 2019-2020, semester I. There are 20 students. This research was Classroom Action Research and was done into two cycles with the material descriptive text with highlighting process and used visual external media.


                Research result showed that there is an increased to the students’ vocabulary and the students’ activities in each cycles. The result from each cycle has different percentage. In the pre-test, from 20 students only 9 students or 45% students achieved the KKM. In the cycle I, the score of the students increased. It can be seen from the result of the post-test is 13 students or 65% students achieved the KKM but the researcher still not sure with this result. The researcher continued in the cycle II, the score of the students enough good increased. It can be seen from the result of the post-test 17 students or 85% students achieved the KKM. Observation result of students’ activities during learning process also showed that there was improvement toward students’ activities which became the observation aspects such as present was preceded by 100% in each cycles, pay attention increased from 45% to 80%, asked to the teacher from 55% to 60%, answered the teacher’s questions from 35% to 75% and enthusiastic to do the teacher task also increased from 35% to 85% in cycle II.


Based on this research, completeness of students’ learning result and students’ learning process reached in each cycles. It was mean, the visual external media could be used in English learning process especially to increase the students’ vocabulary with the lesson text.
